The Exploration of Australia by Nicolas-Thomas Baudin and his Death
Thomas Baudin left from France to Australia on the 19 of October 1800. He got permission from the science authority to go to New Holland (Australia) and study it, but he was also told to claim New Holland for France. The two ships that he had taken with him were the "Le Geographe" and the "Le Naturaliste". The thing that Nicolas Baudin got criticised the most was that both of his ships kept on getting separated from each other. When they managed to arrived at Tasmania they kept on collecting the local flora and fauna as well as observing the their surroundings. Nicolas Baudin learn't how to collect the plants and animals from his younger years as a explorer for Austria.
After collecting samples he then travelled to a unknown coast where he met Captain Matthew Flinders who had arrived there just six days ago. After having some talks and exchanging information Matthew Flinders named the place where he met Nicolas Baudin Encounter Bay. Nicolas's second in command Henri de Freycinet did not like him for not being able to claiming Australia for the French before Matthew Flinders claimed it for the British. One crew member was so upset that they went as far as to make it seem like Baudin was not even there in history. Nicolas Baudin died in Mauritius September 16, 1803 before he could reach France.
